TENKARA FISHING
In this project we had to research the Japanese work ethic, and how they do multiple drafts of their work. It shows you how they take pride in their own work. In this project we got to choose our partners and we had to come up with a topic that originates from Japan. My partner and I chose Tenkara Fishing. This version of fishing originated all the way back to the 9th century bc. Below is our group presentation that we did for this project, as well as our group writing. We had to write about the history and how this was used in the real world. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1h7j3fbTlEESEEvoLoEPyeN3MOqJMYeVYK_ksym732U8/edit#slide=id.p
Tenkara Fishing Script
Tenkara is an ancient way of fishing due to its simplicity, In tenkara fishing all you need is a rod, a line, and a fly. It is extremely easy to catch up on(No pun intended.)

As you can see this man is throwing his line into the water, he is doing this by flipping and whipping the rod.(Play Video) This happens because the rod is extremely flexible.(Pause Video) (Pass Around tenkara rod.)(Ask volunteer to try rod out in water.) As you can see the fly floats on top of the water. At the tip of the rod there is a line connected, this line is not clear. Connected to the line there is something called the leader which is clear and on the leader there is a fly. A fly is a something to resemble just that, a fly. Flies float on top of the water just like any other natural flies. Flies are the biggest part of a trout's diet. At the end of the fly there is a hook to grab the fish's mouth when the fish jumps out of the water to eat the fly. These flies come from under the water when there is a hatch, the flies hatch from nymphs which the fish also eat. The hatch happens when the water temperature reaches a certain point. These flies then float on the water for a while, and that is what your fly is trying to resemble.
If you had the opportunity to learn a sport, a means of providing food, or just relaxing with nature, and only needing three simple items. We have they activatey for you. Tenkara fishing is one of the most simple and easy ways of fishing anyone can do it because all you need is a rod,a line, and a fly.
Tenkara fly fishing (Japanese: テンカラ, literally: "from heaven", or "from the skies").
Tenkara fishing goes all the way back to the 9th century B.C. so as you can see it has been going on forever. In the last 100 years it has actually grown dramatically here in America, a lot of people use these rods in the mountain streams for catching trout. Imagine learning a skill that has done nothing but grow, it started as a form of catching food and has grown into a world wide sport. Along with the activity itself changing and growing so has the design of the rod . The tenkara rods can be anywhere from 8-15 ft long. Newer rods actually collapse and go down to about 20 inches. The older rods were made from a piece of bamboo that they found, and the handle was made from cork. (like a cork board or a cork in a whine bottle.)My perspective on why this is so important to the Japanese is it was a very intercit and simple way to fish and everyone can learn how to fish. They also can provide food for their families with very minimal supplies.
